THE MEDICINAL GARDEN

With the opening of the new Health Center, Wangama Foundation Board Members and Health Center personnel created a medicinal garden for both medicinal purposes and as a demonstration garden for villages. Seeds and manure were provided by Wangama Foundation.

PLANTS/USES

  • Lemongrass: Fever
  • Papaya: Beta carotene, vitamins A, B, C and E, calcium, potassium, anticancer properties, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, moistens the lungs, colds, cough, dysentery, flatulence, menstrual irregularities, rheumatism, stomach ache, ulcers, reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack, improves health of skin, hair, nails, eyes, the sap can treat asthma, digestion, diarrhea, and applied topically to warts, burns, and wounds, fungal infections, worms (avoid getting sap into the eyes).
  • Aloe Vera: Beta carotene, vitamins A, B, C and E, calcium, potassium, anticancer properties, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, moistens the lungs, colds, cough, dysentery, flatulence, menstrual irregularities, rheumatism, stomach ache, ulcers, reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack, improves health of skin, hair, nails, eyes, the sap can treat asthma, digestion, diarrhea, and applied topically to warts, burns, and wounds, fungal infections, worms (avoid getting sap into the eyes).
  • Avocado: Vitamins B and E, beta carotene, potassium (2-3 times for than bananas), malnutrition, maintains good cholesterol, nourishes blood, lungs, large intestines, balances liver function, traditional remedy for erectile dysfunction, constipation, mashed avocado can be applied to face and scalp for healthy skin and hair. Use as a spread in place of margarine.
